Job Description:The Health Information Clerk I is a valuable member of our team. This position provides clerical support by performing a variety of complex clerical tasks that includes assembling and maintaining medical records, assists in the review of medical records for completeness and accuracy, verifies authorizations for compliance, files and retrieves charts and records and performs other duties as assigned.Required Qualifications: To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experiences may not be gained concurrently. In addition, qualifying work experience is credited based on a 40-hour workweek.Education: High school diploma or equivalent.Clerical Experience: One (1) year of work experience which involved performance of a variety of clerical tasks which demonstrated knowledge of English grammar, spelling, arithmetic, common office appliances and equipment; and the ability to read and understand oral and written instructions, carry out procedures in clerical work systems, speak and write simply and directly, compare words and numbers quickly and accurately, operate various kinds of office equipment.Substitutions for Clerical Experience: * Successful completion of a substantially full-time equivalent clerical curriculum leading to a degree or diploma at an accredited post-secondary school which included courses in basic English, arithmetic, general clerical procedures, and office machines may be substituted for the Clerical Experience provided the duration of the training was for a year or more.
Successful completion of a substantially full-time equivalent clerical curriculum leading to a degree, diploma or certificate of achievement at an accredited post-secondary school which was for a period of less than one (1) year may be substituted for the Clerical Experience on a month-for-month basis, provided the training included courses in basic English, arithmetic, general clerical procedures and office machines.
Possession of a current Registered Health Information Technicians (RHIT) certificate received through successful qualification on the national accreditation examination administered by the American Health Information Management Association may be substituted for all of the requirements.
Supervisory Aptitude: Must demonstrate possession of aptitude or potential for the performance of supervisory duties or potential for the performance of supervisory duties through successful completion of regular or special assignments which involve some supervisory responsibilities or aspects; by serving as a group or team leader, or in similar work in which opportunities for demonstrating supervisory capabilities exist; by completion of training courses in supervision accompanied by application of supervisory skills in work assignments; or by favorable appraisals by a supervisor indicating the possession of supervisory potential.Certification: None required.
