Katy Rydell On ‘Flatulence: The Other ‘F’ Word’
Everybody has it, and solo performance artist Katy Rydell promises to present a lively “montage of the world’s collective wisdom about flatulence” on Saturday, Nov. 16, at the Donkey Mill Art Center in Holualoa.
Rydell, who has a master’s degree in Folklore from UCLA, has collected a wealth of material on this universal subject since her graduate school days. Her spoken-word performance weaves ancient tales, personal narratives and modern headlines with humor and wisdom into a rich commentary on the human experience, said a DMAC release.
Rydell is an author, poet, and award-winning playwright whose career as a spoken-word artist has taken her to theaters and festivals across the country. This will be her first trip back to Hawaii since appearing in Honolulu’s Talk Story Festival in 2005.
“No one else could have centered an entire show around flatulence … (so) elegantly, with refinement and delicacy,” said an audience comment following Rydell’s performance at the Portfringe (Me.) Festival in June. “Hilarious and lovely at the same time.”
Tickets are $15 for members/$20 for non-members for the 6 p.m., Nov. 16 performance. The Donkey Mill Art Gallery, is a non-profit charitable organization offering art education for adults and youth. Call 322-3362 or visit www.donkeymillartcenter.org.
