Girl Scouts Celebrate Graduation Day at Kona Commons

Graduation Day took on a whole new meaning for girls from Girl Scouts of Hawai`i, Troops 277, 242, 664, and 284, as 16 scouts participated in an interactive “Bridge” Event at Kona Commons Shopping Center in Kailua-Kona.

The event marks the transition for Girl Scouts from Daisies to Brownies and Brownies to Junior Girl Scouting.

The girls celebrated with a scavenger hunt through the shopping center, with merchants Old Navy, Bath & Body Works, Skechers, Petco, Ultimate Burger and Hawaiian Island Creations each offering a special activity for the girls. Using teamwork, the Scouts worked their way through a pre-set list of clues and questions to successfully complete the hunt, which ended with a flag ceremony and a presentation of badges to mark the girls’ advancement to the next level of scouting.

While on the hunt, the girls took selfies at a station in Old Navy, made lip balm at Bath & Body Works, competed in an Ultimate Burger French fry contest, made animal masks at Petco, strung lei and used `ohe kapala stamps at Hawaiian Island Creations, and measured how high they could jump at Skechers.

“The Girl Scouts of Hawaii extends a warm mahalo to Kona Commons Shopping Center and all the merchants (especially Ultimate Burger, Old Navy, Petco, Skechers, Hawaiian Island Creations and Bath & Body Works) for hosting our troops and helping to make our annual Bridging so memorable. This is a key example of why our Kona community is so special; our girls are lucky to be here!” said Chelsea Ahern, Hawai`i Island Coordinator, Girl Scouts of Hawai`i.

Troops from across the west side, Waikōloa to Captain Cook, participated in the Bridge Event. Parents and troop leaders helped honor the scouts’ achievements.
