Queen’s North Hawai‘i Community Hospital Offers New Summer Volunteer Program For Students

Big Island high school and college students have a new opportunity to help out at Queen’s North Hawai‘i Community Hospital in Waimea.

The hospital is offering a new volunteer program designed for students looking for a meaningful way to spend the summer or who might interested in a career in health care.

“This is a great opportunity to learn more about the exciting field of health care while contributing to our local community,” Julia Ramos, fund development and volunteer program manager, said in a press release. “It has never been a more exciting time to work in a hospital and this gives our young people a great introduction into this rewarding field.”

The program is open to students 16 and older and runs for five weeks from July 5-Aug. 5. Student volunteers will be asked to work three shifts of 4-7 hours each per week. Available assignments include lobby screening, patient escorting and comfort rounding, as well as work in the hospital’s outpatient clinics, supply department, nutritional services and even gardening. Training will be provided.
