County of Hawai‘i Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Anmar Alnagem has been recognized by the Hawai‘i Island Humane Society (HIHS) for a recent court victory against animal cruelty.

In his first appearance as an attorney before a jury trial, Alnagem successfully prosecuted a felony charge of animal cruelty in the first degree that resulted in a unanimous guilty verdict by jurors.

“We are very grateful that the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney and the jury took this case of animal cruelty so seriously,” said Hawai‘i Island Humane Society Executive Director Donna Whitaker. “Our mission is to prevent cruelty to animals here on Hawaii Island and we thank everyone involved. We presented our Champion of Animal Welfare Certificate to Deputy Prosecutor Alnagem for his commitment to animal justice.”
