Batch of Moisture Expected to Keep Conditions Wet

A Small Craft Advisory is posted for the Alenuihaha channel and Big Island leeward and southern waters through 6 p.m. Wednesday for east winds up to 25 knots and rough seas up to 11 feet.

Looking Ahead
Moderate to locally strong trade winds are expected through next weekend, bringing periods of clouds and showers to the islands. A different batch of moisture is expected to move over windward Big Island tonight through Wednesday, keeping conditions wet. Although showers will tend to favor windward areas, the winds will be strong enough to push them to leeward areas at times, while daytime heating will trigger afternoon showers over the Big Island leeward slopes and coast. Another increase in showers is possible this weekend as an upper level disturbance moves toward the islands from the northeast.
Today
Today we expect mostly cloudy skies for windward Big Island in the morning with occasional showers and fewer clouds and showers in the afternoon. The Kona side will be clear to start and mostly cloudy with showers likely each afternoon and evening. High temperatures from 85° to 90°. Northeast winds are expected from 10 to 20 mph.

Tonight
Northeast winds are expected this evening from 10 to 20 mph. Low temperatures from 73° to 78°. Mostly cloudy skies are expected in the evening with scattered showers for windward spots. Leeward spots should be clearing as the night goes on.
