Kealakehe Elementary Hosting Children’s Mental Health Awareness Events
The Kona Community Children’s Council will be holding a three-part children’s mental health awareness event called “Healthy from Head to Toe” at Kealakehe Elementary School cafeteria on May 7, 21, and 28 from 6 – 7:30 p.m.
Each event will feature presentations providing information and support to community families. Dinner will be included, as well as activities and supervision for children while adults attend the presentations.
In addition, bags with community resource information for families will be distributed, and drawings for door prizes will be held. Attendees can received one DHS-approved training hour per event.

May 7: How to Be the Best Advocate You Can Be For Your Child
Alice Bratton, Parent Partner with Hawaii Families As Allies, will present the reasons why we need to be advocates for our keiki, and discuss how to be efficiently effective while navigating the process of finding help and support.
May 21: Caring For Yourself, Caring For Others
Teri Callaghan, co-founder of Light ON Foundation and licensed marriage & family therapist, will teach self-care for parents and ways of teaching and modeling self-care to our keiki.
May 28: Understanding What Kids Need To Succeed
Kei-Lin Cerf, Director of Strategic Community Development, West Hawaii, University of Hawai‘i at Hilo/RCUH & Life Plan Institute Hawaii Island Trainer, will present an introduction to the building blocks of healthy development—known as Developmental Assets—that help children grow up healthy, caring, and responsible.
