About 100 Waipiʻo Valley kūpuna, farmers, ʻohana and their supporters are blocking the 1.5-mile road that leads to the black sand beach and agricultural community.
The blockade is in protest to Hawai‘i County’s decision to reopen the roadway to 4-wheel drive traffic after closing it earlier this year due to safety concerns. The crumbling road is in dangerous need of repair.
BIN reporter Tom Hasslinger is on scene and he will have more on this story. Stay tuned.
