Waiakea Grad Earns PacWest Softball Award
Chelsea Camello’s strong start to her senior season at Chaminade University is getting her noticed in the PacWest Conference.
Camello, a 2012 graduate of Waiakea High School, earned the PacWest’s Softball Pitcher of the Week award after pitching 4.1 innings of shutout ball in a win over Saint Martin’s on Saturday.
In the 8-6 Chaminade victory, Camello allowed just four hits and two walks while picking up a strikeout. It was her second shutout performance of the season.
Hours after earning the award, however, Camello picked up her first loss of the season at Brigham Young University-Hawai’i. She allowed three runs on six hits in the Silverswords’ 3-1 loss on Monday.
On the season, Camello is 1-1 with a 1.75 earned run average in three appearances.
Teammate Keani Passi was named Player of the Week, and Dixie State’s Jessica Gonzalez was announced as the Newcomer of the Week.
The PacWest Softball Weekly Awards recognizes performances between Feb. 8-14.
