Lead contamination at Kolekole Gulch Park still an issue as Hawai‘i County readies to reopen it following accessibility upgrades

Remediation of the problem at the park in Kūhua, just north of Honomū on the Big Island’s Hāmākua Coast, is the responsibility of the Hawai‘i Department of Transportation since the lead likely came from paint on the Kolekole Stream Bridge overhead.

After almost three months of renovations, Kealakekua Public Library will reopen in mid-May.
