Tropical moisture from the two former tropical cyclones is causing dew points to spike into the mid to upper 70s, making it steamy, sticky and stifling around the island.

The latest forecast track brings the center of Hone south of, or possibly near, the Big Island Saturday night into Sunday morning.

This advisory may need to be extended if flooding persists.

An unusually strong upper level disturbance moving over Hawai‘i now also brings a threat of flash flooding. A flood watch is in effect for the entire state until 6 a.m. Saturday.

The first cold front came in on Jan. 7 as a low pressure system developed northwest of the state.

Flooding is no longer expected to pose a threat. Therefore the flood watch has been canceled for the Big Island.

The National Weather Service in Honolulu reports that heavy rain has ended over portions of the Big Island’s west side that triggered the warning earlier today.

Several inches of rain fell on Hawaiʻi Island overnight with the most recorded precipitation falling in Honokaʻa, according to data from the National Weather Service this morning.

Weather experts predict wet conditions to persist throughout the weekend as rain showers moved across the Big Island Friday.

A Flash Flood Watch has been issued for the Big Island through late Thursday.

Wet weather and high surf are expected over the weekend.

Highway 11 near the 108 mile marker and Hualalai Road at the intersection of Oni Oni Street have both now reopened.

A Flash Flood Watch has been extended until 6 p.m. Thursday for the entire state.
