#Laiopua 2020

Projects that received funding were designed to strengthen Hawaiian cultural identity, support instruction in ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi, encourage ʻāina stewardship, prepare students for career readiness and help reintegrate those emerging from the justice system.

The Kako‘o grant will fortify La‘i‘ōpua 2020ʻs ability to deliver essential services to its Native Hawaiian community.

Kalai Papa & Pōhaku begins on Aug. 25 and includes an orientation and six half-day sessions; at its end, each ‘ohana will have created a board and stone, which will last them a lifetime.

This initiative is possible because of a donation from the Robertʻs Foundation, 

These are drive-through events. Participants are asked to remain in their vehicles, as volunteers will deliver food directly to car windows

Those interested are asked to observe social distancing protocol, including wearing a face covering. Volunteers will distribute meal kits directly to vehicle windows.  

Those interested can pick up a beef-mushroom stew that feeds 6 to 8 people.

La‘i‘Ōpua 2020 is offering a free do-it-yourself meal pickup for Big Island residents later this week. 

La‘i‘ōpua 2020 is serving up free Italian food this Thursday. 

The pickup will begin at 5 p.m. and continue as long as supplies last.

The meal bags will consist of mushroom pork chops with rice and will serve up to eight people.

La‘i‘ōpua 2020 and Ippy’s Hawaiian Barbeque are offering a free meal Thursday.

The U.S. Department of Education (DOE) will award Hawai‘i a total of $7,502,520 to fund Native Hawaiian education programs.
