The Hawai‘i Department of Transportation issued an advisory Sunday night.

During the past few days, people have taken to social media to complain about long security lines at the airport; Hawai‘i Department of Transportation, Transportation Security Administration quiet about how equipment problems are being addressed.

Pōhakuloa Training Area officials report efforts continue to mitigate any inconvenience the training might have for island residents.

Do not come to the airport unless you have a confirmed flight.

The runway will be closed nightly from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.

The work is scheduled from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Aug. 19-22, weather permitting. It could finish sooner.

The runway work is part of the state’s ongoing efforts to improve takeoff and taxiway operations at the Hilo airport.
