Due to teen Samuel Mwarey’s death, this investigation has been changed to a negligent homicide investigation.
16-year-old in critical condition following collision in Hilo involving on-duty Big Island police officer
A negligent injury investigation was initiated and the officer involved in the incident, who was not injured, was placed on administrative leave pending investigation, which is standard procedure. The Office of Professional Standards also initiated an internal inquiry as a result of the collision.
