35-year-old faces slew of charges stemming from 4-hour armed standoff in Aloha Estates

After conferring with the Hawai’i County prosecutor’s office Friday, detectives with the Hawai’i Police Department’s Area I Criminal Investigation Section charged 35-year-old Joseph Diego Soares with several offenses including first-degree reckless endangering, third-degree promotion of a dangerous drug and other firearms offenses.

DPS Reports 7 Negative COVID Test Results Among Inmates at HCCC

The state Department of Public Safety reported in a news release Tuesday, March 1, that its latest round of COVID-19 testing at Hawai’i Community Correctional Center in Hilo produced only negative results.
