The next steps in the decommissioning include completing interior deconstruction and removal of the observatory dome.

The internship program is led by the Institute for Scientist and Engineer Educators at University of California Observatories, in partnership with the University of Hawaiʻi. 

“After much logistical planning, we successfully removed the telescope from the observatory building, allowing deconstruction of the buildings to begin,” Caltech physics professor and Caltech Submillimeter Observatory Director Sunil Golwala said.

Thirty Meter Telescope officials announced Tuesday that India has signed as a full partner in the project.
