In its monthly report, police indicate 1.2 grams of the illicit drug was recovered in August including one pill. Additionally, five people were arrested in connection to the synthetic opioid.

Bail was maintained at more than $718,000 and the 45-year-old is expected to appear for a preliminary hearing today.

The search warrant also led to the arrest of a 45-year-old man.

According to Hawai‘i County Office of the Prosecuting Attorney, the amount of pills the suspect had in his possession was equivalent to approximately 3,980 lethal doses of the synthetic opioid.

The 107.18 total grams of illicit fentanyl recovered by Hawai‘i Police Department in March was enough to kill 53,590 Hawai‘i Island residents.

The 35-year-old was initially arrested on suspicion of violating the terms and conditions of his release in a drug case where he is awaiting trial on charges of a class B promotion of a dangerous drug and class C promotion of a dangerous drug after being found with fentanyl on Sept. 17, 2023, and Nov. 9, 2023.

36-year-old Florelynn Ito also faces several drug charges after Big Island police executed a search warrant on her Toyota Tacoma.

On Friday, police officers, along with Homeland Security Investigations Taskforce agents, contacted 35-year-old Dorian Thompson as he was deplaning an inbound mainland flight. 

The inmate who died was identified as Steven Mario Delgado.

A Kona couple arrested at Ellison Onizuka Kona International Airport are facing additional charges after an inmate at Hawai‘i Community Correctional Center died of a suspected fentanyl overdose.

The couple are scheduled to appear in Kona Circuit Court later this month.

41-year-old Izaiah Matthew Shields and 37-year-old Moriah Goulette, both of Kona, were contacted Dec. 29 at the airport by VICE officers after disembarking from a flight from California.

Kory Yoshio Maeda was charged with 11 offenses including first-degree attempted promoting a dangerous drug, two counts of second-degree attempted promoting a dangerous drug, second-degree promoting a dangerous drug, six counts of third-degree promoting a dangerous drug and prohibited acts related to drug paraphernalia.
