The little miniature horse with a big heart: Big Island’s Darby in the running for 2024 Pet of the Year
As of late afternoon Thursday, the Waimea certified pet therapy animal, the first from Hawai‘i to be nominated, had raised $10,013 so far and was No. 1 on the leaderboard. The fundraising competition through Pet Partners ends March 18 and Darby is looking for everyone’s support.

The Central Pacific Hurricane Center reported Saturday evening that the remnants of Darby moved southwest of Hawai’i Island and will have very little impact on Hawaii’s weather

On Saturday, downgraded Tropical Storm Darby passed south and west of the Big Island. Big waves and rain were part of the remnants of the passing storm.
Saturday Update: Darby’s Path Stays Steady, Passing West of Big Island Today
The Central Pacific Hurricane Center said in its 5 a.m. Saturday public advisory that Darby was about 190 miles east-southeast of Hilo and about 400 miles east-southeast of Honolulu, moving west at about 22 mph. It will be west of the Big Island by 2 p.m. today, according to the Center.
