Ige said TMT not prepared to proceed with construction presently but added this is not the end of TMT in Hawai‘i and vowed to provide safe access to Maunakea for TMT if and when the organization is ready to move forward.

Hawai‘i police in place for the TMT protestor blockade on Mauna Kea Access Road continued their stepped-up traffic enforcement.

HPD officers wrote 547 citations over the last week as the department continued ramped up enforcement on Daniel K. Inouye Highway.

“The State does not own the land, nor does TMT.”

University of Hawai‘i President Lassner issued a statement in response to the news release issued by the Mauna Protectors.

Mauna Protectors issued a statement on Sept. 17 regarding what they called “police misconduct at Puʻuhonua o Puʻuhuluhulu.”

“Not building the TMT and sending it over to the Canary Islands does not reconcile the damage that has been done.”

“We should realize that this project is almost ten years old already and another ten projected to first light.”

The rhetoric surrounding the TMT dispute atop Mauna Kea continues to ratchet up, as one Hawai‘i resident took the conversation to the topic of mass shootings.
