Civil Defense: No Tsunami Threat to Hawaiʻi From 7.6 Earthquake off Mexico Coast
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center confirms there is NO tsunami threat to the Island and State of Hawaii, according to the Hawaiʻi County Civil Defense Agency.
A 7.6 magnitude earthquake was reported at 8:05 a.m. near the coast of Michoacan, Mexico at a depth of 9.3 miles, according to the US Geological Survey.
It is still too early to determine if there is a possible tsunami threat to Hawaiʻi.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said if there is a tsunami threat to Hawaiʻi, the earliest estimated time of arrival is 3:19 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 19, 2022.
