The county Department of Water Supply is notifying customers along portions of Wainaku Street in Hilo that their water will be shut off temporarily one day this week.

Water will be turned off between 8:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 22, for all customers from Pua Lane to Llanley Lane and along Kaiwiki Road, from Wainaku Street to Maikalani Street and all side streets.

The shutoff is necessary for the department to relocate a fire hydrant.

Affected customers should take precautions to protect their property and facilities including, but not limited to, disabling electrical power to pumps and/or any other devices dependent on water pressure and/or water supply to operate and that could be harmed if automatically energized during the shutoff period.

Upon resumption of water service, waterlines will be flushed and cleaned, during which time customers in the affected areas might notice turbid and/or discolored water. They could also notice trapped air in plumbing, which will be released as water is initially used.

“Please pardon these temporary inconveniences,” a press release from DWS said.

Questions can be directed to district supervisor Carl Nishimura at 808-961-8790.
