Churchill, adapted and performed by Ronald Keaton, will be performed at the Kahilu Theatre.

Ronald Keaton. PC: Kahilu Theatre.

Churchill has enjoyed extended runs at the Greenhouse Theatre Center in Chicago followed by a six-month run Off-Broadway at New World Stages in NYC. Based on the life and writings of the Prime Minister who saw England through its darkest hours, Keaton has created a brilliant one-man show offering a glimpse into the character of one of the most important world leaders. Winston Churchill was a politician, a painter, a Nobel winning author and raconteur, who is credited as the man who “saved the honor of the 20 th Century.” Winston Churchill’s story, adapted and performed by Keaton, delves into the life of the man who has continued to inspire future generations.

The play begins in March of 1946. Winston Churchill has led Britain and the Allied Forces to victory in the European Theatre of WWII and, shockingly, was defeated for re-election as Prime Minster of Great Brittan. Sitting in forced retirement with his wife, Clementine, in their Chartwell home, Churchill receives an invitation from U.S. President Harry Truman to speak at Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri. Churchill arrives in Fulton to an informal and esoteric gathering of friends and supporters to discuss his failures and his successes; his love of art, liquor and women; and the bravery of Britain’s finest hour as he delivers his legendary, “Iron Curtain” speech and famously proclaims, “I am ready to meet my Maker. Whether my Maker is prepared for the great ordeal of meeting me is another matter…”

The Chicago Tribune called the show “An earnest, honest and deeply reflective piece of original Chicago theater…that reminds us of how, in politics as in business, integrity, courage and relationships are what matter the most.” History enthusiasts and lovers of great theater will not want to miss this stunning portrayal of the first man to become an honorary citizen of the United States.
