The Hawaiian Electric Companies is looking for potential renewable energy project opportunities that may not have qualified under an earlier request for proposals. Information is welcome for any renewable energy project that could be developed throughout the companies’ service territory.

In February, the companies issued a request for proposals for 300 megawatts of new, dispatchable renewable generation for O‘ahu, Maui and Hawai‘i island. Those proposals were due on April 30, 2018. At that time, inquiries were received for projects that did not fit the scope of the request for proposals.

The companies are now seeking a better understanding of potential projects and the benefits they may provide by issuing this request for information. As this request does not seek detailed proposals and the companies do not intend to negotiate with respondents. Instead, the information gathered will be used in future renewable procurement efforts on O‘ahu, Maui, Moloka‘i, Lana‘i and Hawai‘i islands to gain benefits offered by these potential projects.

The companies recognize that reaching 100% renewable energy for electricity by 2045 will require a broad mix of resources and want to properly consider all project opportunities to meet that goal as laid out in the companies’ Power Supply Improvement Plan.
