On Friday, March 30, the Hawai‘i Fire Department and rescue team arrived on scene with Chopper 1 to search for a missing swimmer. Rescue divers initiated a search above and below the water’s surface.
At nightfall the search was suspended: At first light this morning, Saturday, March 31, HFD rescue teams set up and began underwater, surface and aerial searches for the missing swimmer.
At 10:02 a.m., the dive team reported that they found the body underwater in the pool below Rainbow Falls. The body was extricated by Chopper 1 and turned over to HPD for positive identification.
UPDATE 3: March 31, 12:03 p.m.
Hawai‘i Fire Department Battalion Captain Matthias Kusch just confirmed that the body of Myles Amundson Osgood, age 20, a visitor from Minneapolis, Minnesota, was retrieved from the pools beneath Rainbow Falls at 10 a.m.
His parents, Robert Osgood and Kris Amundson Osgood, and his sister, Veronica Amundson Osgood, have been notified by officials.

Big Island Now received an email from the missing swimmer’s aunt, identifying him as Myles Osgood from Minneapolis, Minnesota, who was on vacation on the Big Island along with some friends.

Big Island Now is at the scene of the continuing search at Rainbow Falls this morning.

A search and rescue helicopter is conducting overflights of the area, but the missing swimmer has not yet been located.
The standard protocol for searches is three days, according to Hawai‘i Fire Department Captain Todd Vincent.

The Hawai‘i Fire Department has suspended the search Friday evening, March 30, 2018, for a 20-year-old man who was swimming at the Rainbow Falls area of the Big Island.
People in the area stated that he was swimming with a few others and that he got sucked under a waterfall and did not resurface.
One helicopter responded to the incident and several fire trucks were involved in the search. Rainbow Falls was closed while the search was in operation.
The search will resume on Saturday, March 31, at first light.
