East Hawai‘i Water Shutoff Notice Issued for Aug. 8 to 9
The Department of Water Supply has issued a water shutoff notice for the Hāmākua, Kapulena, Kukuihaele and Waipi‘o Valley areas from 11 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 8, to 3 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 9.
The shutoff will allow the installation of a new waterline connection for the Department of Water Supply’s Kapulena Well Development Project.
When water service resumes, waterlines will be flushed and cleaned. Water users may notice turbid or discolored water, as well as trapped air in plumbing upon initial use.
Affected customers are asked to take any necessary precautions to protect their properties and facilities including: disabling electrical power to pumps and/or any other devices whose normal operation may be dependent on water pressure and/or water supply, and which might be harmed if automatically energized during the water shutoff.
