HPD Investigates Possible Drowning in Kohala

badge-1-150x150Hawaiʻi Island police are investigating a possible drowning in South Kohala.

At 6:34 p.m. on Dec. 5, officers responded to a report that an unresponsive man had been pulled out of a pool at a private home off South Kaniku Drive.

When police arrived, Hawaiʻi Fire Department medics were transporting the victim to North Hawaiʻi Community Hospital.

He was pronounced dead Monday, Dec. 12, at 3:58 p.m.

The victim has been identified as 39-year-old Gavaskar Atyam of Redmond, Washington.

Police have initiated a coroner’s inquest and have ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
