Police report that an autopsy conducted on Tuesday afternoon determined that the man died of sharp and blunt force trauma to the head.

The death, initially listed as a coroner’s inquest investigation, has been reclassified as murder as an investigation into the incident continues by Area II Criminal Investigation Section detectives.

On Sunday morning, a woman walking her dogs reported to police that an unresponsive body was found in a coffee field off Keopuka Mauka Road. Police say the woman found the body after one of her dogs wandered off to the man. The man was pronounced dead at Kona Community Hospital at 3:50 p.m. Sunday.
