Hawaiian Airlines will introduce new non-stop service between Los Angeles and Kona during next summer’s peak travel period with three flights a week, the company announced in press release today.

Direct flights between Los Angeles and Lihue, Kauai, will also be added next summer, the release said, in response for growing demand in Southern California for travel to Hawaii Island and Kauai. The LA-Lihu’e flights will take off four times a week from June 26 to Sept. 19.

The new service will add more than 22,000 seats to both island travel markets over 12 weeks of service, and will complement Hawaiian Airlines’ new Oakland service that will also start next summer with direct flights to Lihu’e and Kona.

“We are offering more options for Southern California travelers to book their vacation and experience Hawai’i’s Big Island and Garden Isle,” said Peter Ingram, Hawaiian Airlines executive vice president. “We are pleased to be supporting both Kaua’i and Big Island’s visitor industries with this new summer service.”

Hawaiian Airlines’ wide-body, twin-aisle Boeing 767-300ER aircraft will fly the new routes. With the new service, both Lihu’e Airport and Kona International Airport will have a Hawaiian Airlines wide-body aircraft arriving every day of the week next summer.
