After a record low temperature was set in Hilo on April 2, a record high temperature was set there on Sunday.
The 84 degrees recorded at Hilo International Airport broke the old record for April 7 of 83 degrees, set in 2004.
The warmest temperature ever recorded there in the month of April was 89 degrees. It was set on April 2 in 1963 and then tied on April 20, 1978.

The all-time record high at Hilo’s airport was 94 degrees, set in May 1966.
A record high temperature of 90 degrees was also set at Maui’s Kahului Airport on Saturday, breaking the old record for that date of 89 degrees set in 1951.
Sunday’s record high in Hilo came five days after a record low of 58 degrees was set at the airport. That record for April 2 also tied the lowest temperature ever recorded there in the month of April.
