Police in South Kohala are investigating the possible drowning of a San Francisco man who died while snorkeling in the waters off the Mauna Lani resort.

Police said Paul S. Tsang, 50, was observed floating in the water by a person onshore at the Mauna Lani Beach Club.

A visitor from Utah used a paddle board to check on Tsang and found him unresponsive. Tsang was brought to shore where a nurse visiting from Arizona and a lifeguard performed cardio-pulmonary resuscitation until county paramedics arrived.

The paramedics were unable to revive Tsang and he was taken to North Hawaii Community Hospital in Waimea where he was pronounced dead at 1:39 p.m.
