The beach at Pohoiki, near the easternmost point on the the Big Island in the Puna District, grew rapidly in the year following the 2018 lower East Rift Zone eruption of Kīlauea and has continued to evolve since.

The holiday season meetings are an effort to reach out to and engage with the residents of the lawmaker’s congressional district, giving them an opportunity to share topics important to their community.

The Hawai‘i DLNR reported that a damage assessment of the formerly popular Pohoiki Boat Ramp area along the lower Puna coast shows no damage to the ramp itself.

MacKenzie State Recreation Area in Lower Puna will reopen on Saturday, Sept. 8, 2018.

Many Puna residents have missed going to some of their favorite beaches and parks since the Kīlauea eruption and lava flows simply overtook some of the beaches.
