Electronic Processing and Information Center — Hawai’i County’s online portal for permits, plan submissions, inspections, payments and public records — will be unavailable from 1 a.m. June 11 through 8 a.m. June 12.

Resolution 567-26 authorizes the county’s condemnation and acquisition of a long, thin strip of land running along the edge of two separate parcels in the Keonepoko Iki subdivision just north of the Hawaiian Shores neighborhood.

With parties unable to reach an agreement, a resolution allows Hawaiʻi County to pursue the taking of private property to improve Government Beach Road.

Work will begin near the ambulance entrance to the Emergency Room and extend to the area just below the hospital’s upper parking lot.

The Hawaiʻi County Council can’t move forward with the budget until the finance director provides the net taxable real property for the upcoming fiscal year.

The project will occur in phases — between Kanoelehua Avenue and Pūʻainakō Street — and all work will happen from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays, weather permitting.

Applications, available through the county’s Electronic Processing and Information Center, allow applicants to perform a variety of work, including a new driveway approach, private waterline installation, sidewalk repair, etc.

A new traffic signal at the intersection of Waikōloa Road, Paniolo Avenue, and Pūā Melia Street in Waikōloa Village will be fully operational on Monday, Dec. 15, after a preparation period, starting on Friday, Dec. 12.

“Time is of the essence when a tsunami threatens Hawai‘i Island, so we encourage everyone living, working or learning in coastal areas to know and practice their escape routes,” said Hawaiʻi County Mayor Kimo Alameda.

The project involves the restoration of 4.5 miles of roadway and water lines that will return water service to Isaac Kepo‘okalani Hale Beach Park.

Hawaiʻi County has set up a permitting process for food trucks to operate legally along Ane Keohokālole Highway and it is providing a temporary space for Food Truck Fridays.

The project at the beach park just off Puhi Bay, between Chalk’s Beach and Hilo Yacht Club, in the Hilo coastal community is aimed at addressing concerns raised during a recent community meeting and includes repaving the park’s upper parking lot as well as its main entry road.

The parking lot was the collaborative vision developed by West Side Hawaiʻi Little League and the Hawaiʻi County Department of Parks and Recreation.

Resurfacing of about 3 miles of the highway, from Kalamauka Road to Ha‘awina Street, begins May 19. The final 3-mile segment of the repavement project is set to begin June 18.

The trial was put into place to address the skyrocketing parking prices and limited free spaces that have become a problem for the downtown business district.

Preparation work is being done on Māmalahoa Highway between Palani Road and Kamalani Street and on Kalamauka Road from Māmalahoa Highway to Ha‘awina Street from 8:15 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. until Friday.

Vacancies in Hawaiʻi County government impact the public in many ways, including fewer open hours at transfer stations and public pools, and slower response to maintenance of roads, tree trimming, parks and fields.

On Thursday, the Hawai‘i County Council Communications, Reports and Council Oversight Committee listened to an update from Public Works Director Steve Pause on the progress of conducting the Puna Alternate Routes Study.

The long-awaited road project in Pāhoa will begin construction in late September, according to Hawaiʻi County’s public works department.
