UPDATE: Stabbing Victim ID’d; Suspect a State Hospital Escapee

Police have identified a man arrested Tuesday afternoon on suspicion of second-degree murder as David True Seal of Mountain View.

Seal, 34, was being held Wednesday without charges while police continued their investigation into Tuesday’s stabbing death in the Eden Roc subdivision.

Police on Wednesday afternoon identified the victim as Rory Thompson Wick of Mountain View.

Wick had been taken to Hilo Medical Center Tuesday afternoon with multiple stab wounds. He was pronounced dead at 11:11 p.m.

According to Honolulu CrimeStoppers, Seal escaped in 2009 from the Hawaii State Hospital.

Seal had been committed to the facility in 2002 after he was acquitted by reason of insanity of the kidnapping and sexual assault of a girl under 10 years old.

Seal escaped from the hospital by scaling a 15-foot fence.

A man was arrested in upper Puna this afternoon in connection with a fatal stabbing.

Officers responding at 3:20 p.m. to Pilo Street in the Eden Roc subdivision found a 32-year-old man unresponsive, with multiple stab wounds.

The suspect was arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder and taken to the Hilo police cellblock. He was later transferred to Hilo Medical Center for treatment of undisclosed, non-life-threatening injuries.

Police were not immediately able to verify the identity of the suspect, who they believe is 34 years old.

The name of the stabbing victim was not released pending notification of his family.
