The public is being warned about a telephone scam from persons claiming to represent the county Department of Water Supply.
Police said individuals are calling DWS customers and threatening to shut off their water service supposedly because of an overdue water bill.
The callers also claim that if the victims provide six months advance payment they will receive a 40% discount.
Water Supply officials say the calls are fraudulent and an attempt to gain access to credit card information.
Anyone receiving such a call should report it to the police department at 935-3311. Recipients of such calls can file an additional report with the Department of Water Supply at 961-8050.
