Weekly DUI Arrests: Police Nab 32 Motorists on Hawai`i Island

Hawai`i Police Department officials report that during the week of Aug. 5, 2013, through Aug. 11, 2013, officers arrested a total of 32 Big Island motorists for “driving under the influence.”

Of the persons arrested, six of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Four were under the age of 21.

There have been a total of 762 DUI arrests this year, compared with 841 during the same time in 2012, a decrease of 9.4%.

A total of 830 major accidents have been reported so far this year, compared to 901 during the same period in 2012, a decrease of 7.9%.

Traffic fatalities have also fallen when compared with 2012 numbers. As of Aug. 12, 2013, there have been 21 traffic fatalities on the Big Island, a decrease of 12.5% since this same time last year.

Police say DUI roadblocks will continue island-wide.
