A Department of Water Supply crew was finishing up repairs late this afternoon to a water main break in upper Waiakea Uka.

The break occurred on Hoaka Road just past the intersection with Ainaola Drive at around 10 a.m. today.

The rupture was initially thought to have cut water service to homes between Kupulau Road and Malaai Road, but department spokeswoman Kanani Aton later said that it may have affected customers as far down as the Haihai Street-Ainaola Drive intersection.

She said water service was anticipated to be restored by 6 p.m.

Customers may notice whitish water coming from their taps which Aton said is the result of air trapped in the lines. She said the water is still drinkable but the department was recommending that customers flush their house system using the tap or fixture at the highest elevation in the home.
