Deals and Steals, a retail liquidation outlet, recently opened in Hilo at 18 Pohaku St., across from CD Wizard.

The store offers merchandise that it has bought from retailers going out of business or who have excess inventory.

“We focus on home goods, electronics, furniture, sporting goods and pet-related items,” said store manager Will Miller, adding that “we end up with a little bit of everything.”

Miller explained that the company does not accept consignment items, rather it buys closeouts from big retail store chains on the mainland and throughout the state and ships them to Hilo.

“We bring in containers every two weeks,” said Miller. He noted that the inventory is constantly changing.

According to Miller, Deals and Steals was founded after his father Bill Miller, who owns the store, came across an opportunity while traveling on the mainland.

Noting that his father is an entrepreneur, the younger Miller said, “He had an opportunity to offer good prices on quality goods.”

Bill Miller also owns Discount Fabric Warehouse, which is located across the parking lot from Deals and Steals.

The company has hired two people and is looking to hire two to three more in the coming weeks.

Plans are already underway to expand to a space next door in the coming months.
