Big Island police said Wednesday that they were not conducting helicopter operations in Kona.

Police issued the statement in response to complaints lodged about low-flying helicopters.

Police said the flights were the result of a private company carrying out aerial GPS mapping.

The operations being conducted by Louisiana-based Fugro Aerial & Mobile Mapping were expected to be completed Wednesday afternoon.
