Hawaii Fire Department inspectors are investigating the cause of a fire that destroyed a vacant building this morning in the Hawaiian Acres subdivision.

Personnel from the Keaau Fire Station arriving at the fire on Road 7 at 10:09 a.m. found the structure burned to the ground.

There were no utilities connected to the 200-square-foot building, and neighbors told firefighters that it was unoccupied.

The building had a 300-foot driveway and was surrounded by heavy ohia forest.

Damage to the structure and its contents was estimated at between $4,000 and $5,000.
