UPDATE: Police Identify South Kohala Car Crash Victim

Police have identified the victim of Tuesday night’s car crash as Pamela Sue Norman.

An autopsy showed the 25-year-old Hawi woman died from injuries sustained in the crash into a storage building at the Fairmont Orchid hotel, police said in a statement issued Thursday.

A Hawi woman died Tuesday night after her vehicle left the roadway at the entrance to a South Kohala resort and crashed into a storage building 150 feet away.

Fire department personnel responding to a 7:58 p.m. call found the 25-year-old woman with no signs of life. She was trapped in the vehicle, which was on its side, and extricated with the use of Jaws of Life.

She was taken to Kona Community Hospital where she was pronounced dead at 11:48 p.m.

Police said she was wearing a seat belt.

Witnesses said that the 4-door 2006 Toyota sedan was traveling at a high rate of speed before going off the right side of North Kaniku Drive at the entrance of the Fairmont Orchid Hotel and striking the building.

The banquet storage building sustained $15,000 in damage.

The cause of the crash is under investigation. Police said it was unknown if drugs or alcohol were involved.
