A conference to prepare Kealakehe High School seniors for college and the workforce will be held tomorrow from 9:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the Old Kona Airport Pavilion.
Participating in the first annual College, Career and Life Skills Conference will be representatives from the University of Hawaii at Hilo, University of Hawaii Center at West Hawaii, Hawaii Community Federal Credit Union and the Society of Human Resources’ Big Island Education Foundation.
The conference is designed to provide information to the seniors on the college experience in general and on financial aid. It will also inform them on types of skills employers are seeking, workplace readiness tips and how to prepare resumes and for job interviews.
Financial planning and how to budget wisely will also be covered.
The conference is being presented by Hawaii P-20 Partnerships for Education, a statewide effort led by the governor’s Executive Office on Early Learning, the Hawaii Department of Education and the University of Hawaii system.
According to its website, the goal of P-20 is for 55% of Hawaii’s working-age adults to have a two- or four-year college degree by the year 2025.
P-20 spokeswoman Leslie Yogi said tomorrow’s conference is the first of its type for the organization on the Big Island.
