University of Hawai`i at Hilo junior right-hander Vanessa Salinas continues to overpower and dominate the opposing team every time she takes to the softball circle.

For the second time this season, the Vulcans’ ace hurler was awarded the Hawai`i Tourism Authority / PacWest Conference Pitcher of the Week award, announced Sunday night by the conference.

The conference-leading Vulcans kept busy during the past week, encompassing games played between April 1-7, going 9-1 in a stretch that included five wins out of six games at the Mizuno Tournament of Champions in Turlock, CA.

Salinas was steady in her outings, going 5-0 in 28 and two-thirds innings of work, putting together three complete games and two shutouts. She struck out 18 hitters and walked only three in that stretch, and her earned run average came out to a miniscule 1.47.
