Kona Woman Found Floating Near Kailua-Kona Pier

Police said a 67-year-old Kona woman has died in an apparent drowning near the Kailua-Kona pier.

A swimmer found the woman, identified as Nga Angie Prieto of Kailua-Kona, floating face-down in the water.

The swimmer flagged down a tender boat from a cruise ship and the victim was pulled aboard.

The boat’s crew administered cardio-pulmonary resuscitation while taking the woman to shore where county paramedics took over the CPR efforts.

The woman was transported to Kona Community Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

An autopsy has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death.
