UHH’s Greene Named to Preseason All-PacWest Softball List
The University of Hawai`i at Hilo softball team will be looking to a sophomore to lead their bats against PacWest competition this season.
The PacWest Conference announced Thursday that Emily Greene, a second year player from Woodland Hills, CA, was named to the conference’s preseason All-Conference team.
Greene returns to the squad after finishing second on the team last season behind graduating senior Aisha Sueda in batting average (.320), home runs (five), and runs batted in (30).
The Vulcans finished the 2012 campaign with a 24-20 overall record and 18-13 mark in the conference. The league’s members voted UHH to finish sixth in the conference this year, a notch below last year. Cal Baptist was projected to repeat as conference champion.
UH Hilo opens the season today with the Kona Kickoff Classic. St. Martin’s University, Rollins College, Western Washington University, and fellow conference member Brigham Young University-Hawai`i join the Vulcans in Kailua-Kona for the three day event.
UHH plays St. Martin’s Friday at 5:00 p.m., followed by BYU-Hawai`i at 7:30 p.m. from the Kekuaokalani Gymnasium park grounds. Both games can be heard on ESPN Radio and ESPNHawaii.com
