Residents of the Ahualoa area will be without water service on the morning of Thursday, Jan. 3, while connections are made for a new water system.

A spokeswoman for the county Department of Water Supply said the service will be off from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. to allow connections to Phase I of the Ahualoa-Honokaa Transmission Waterline.

The affected areas include all services in Ahualoa along the old Mamalahoa Highway, from the DeSilva Tank to the Mauna Loa Junction Road, including connections on Palikekua Street in the Hagiwara subdivision. The outage will also affect connections on Pikake Street from Hagiwara Tank to Mauna Loa Street, including Ka`ao Road.

As water service is restored the waterlines will be flushed and cleaned during which time customers may notice turbid or discolored water, as well as trapped air in the plumbing.
