A flow test of a fire hydrant on Dec. 13 will affect homes and businesses in the area of the Akoni Pule Highway near Kawaihae.

The hydrant near the Kaei Hana II Industrial Subdivision will take place between 9 and 10 a.m.

The affected areas include that subdivision, Maluokalani Street, Maluokalani Place, Kawaihae-Mahukona Road, Kawaihae Residential Lots, makai Honokoa Street and Kaewa Place.

Consumers in those areas may experience slightly discolored and turbid water for several hours after the test. The county Department of Water Supply is advising those customers to refrain from washing clothes and to store a container of water for their drinking needs until the supply of water is restored to normal.
