The Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs (DCCA) is encouraging Big Island real estate professionals to renew their licenses online.

Hawai’i has more than 18,860 real estate professionals who are required by state law to renew their licenses every two years.

During the last renewal cycle in 2010, more than 16,400 licensees (about 97%) renewed their licenses online.

A renewal postcard notice with instructions for completing the online renewal has been mailed to each current license holder.

The renewal application is also available online at http://hawaii.gov/dcca/pvl/boards/real/ or can be obtained by contacting the Big Island licensing branch at 974-4000 followed by 6-3000 and the # sign.

Online renewals will be accepted until midnight on Dec. 31. After that date, renewals will not be accepted online, and persons wishing to renew their license must submit the forms by mail or in person.

This online service is part of the state’s ongoing initiative to improve efficiency by implementing electronic government services and Gov. Neil Abercrombie’s New Day Plan that aims to expand the state’s technological capabilities in all sectors to create an environment in Hawai‘i for businesses to thrive.

The online renewal service was created through a partnership with the State of Hawai’i Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs Professional and Vocational Licensing Division and the state’s Internet Portal Manager, Hawai’i Information Consortium.
