The 2012 league championship goes to Hilo High, who defeated Kea’au 10-4 on Thursday to capture their first league championship since 2006, before Waiakea’s era of dominance began.

Hilo has locked up a seeded berth in the Datahouse / Hawaii High School Athletic Association Division I State Softball Tournament, which begins May 2 at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium. Kea’au will have a chance to join the Vikings in the state tournament, but they must win a play-in game against the sixth-place team out of the Oahu Interscholastic Association. That game will played at Kea’au High School at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Meanwhile, the Division II tournament continues today with semifinal action at several school sites. The winners and losers will play Saturday at 1 p.m. to determine the three league representatives who will head to the Datahouse / HHSAA Division II State Softball Tournament.
