Hawai‘i Police Department’s South Hilo Community Police responded to three burglaries, one vehicle theft and one vehicle break-in over the seven-day period from Friday through Thursday, July 6 to 12, 2018.
The vehicle was recovered with damage to the ignition and steering column.
The complete list of crime locations and dates are as follows:
3 BURGLARIES
On July 7 between noon and 1 p.m., unknown suspect(s) entered a residence located near the 100 block of Laimana Street and removed a white male English bulldog with brown spots from the first floor of the residence without permission. There were no signs of forced entry into the residence. All doors and windows were locked and se- cured.
Between July 7 at 12 p.m. and July 8 at 8 a.m., unknown suspect(s) damaged a back door to a business with an unknown object, and entered a business located near the 800 block of Kīlauea Avenue. Removed was a black tank top, a blue Acer brand laptop and $110 in miscellaneous cash without permission.
Between July 8 at 11 a.m. and July 11 at 9:30 a.m., unknown suspect(s) removed four wooden jealousies to the rear of a church located near the 900 block of Kīlauea Avenue, and entered the building. Removed was approximately $100 in miscellaneous food items without permission.

1 MOTOR VEHICLE THEFT
On July 11 between noon and 6:45 a.m., unknown suspect(s) entered a white 2002 Toyota Tacoma quad cab, and attempted to steal the vehicle. The truck was parked outside the entrance gate to break wall on Kalaniana‘ole Street and the vehicle had damage to the ignition and steering column.

On July 6 at 9:54 a.m., Shila Abong, 28, was arrested and subsequently charged for attempted vehicle break-in after the victim, a 50-year-old woman, reported that after leaving her residence operating her white 2017 Toyota Tacoma and attempting to turn onto the Onomea Scenic Highway, she observed Abong standing in the road blocking the roadway. The victim stated that Abong approached her drivers’ window, so she manually locked her vehicle, at which time Abong walked to her rear passenger door on the drivers’ side and attempted to enter her vehicle by lifting the door handle three times. The victim heard Abong stating that she needed “freshener” but she did not know what that meant. The 50-year-old woman stated that she felt alarmed and concerned for her safety and her property.
