Boys & Girls Club Takes in Displaced Students
The Boys & Girls Club announces that starting Monday, May 14, 2018, over 100 Puna area youth who have been displaced by the recent lava-flow events were welcomed by the Boys & Girls Club of the Big Island onto their Hilo Club campus. The youth are students of Kua ‘O Ka La Public Charter School.
“Kua ‘O Ka La school activities will run Mondays through Fridays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.,” said Chad Cabral, BGCBI CEO. “Their youth are continuing to receive daily enrichment, opportunities to engage with their peer students, food nourishment, and a much needed break from the current physical and emotional hardships they are experiencing. That is what is important for us here at the Boys & Girls Club of the Big Island. To see the kids outside playing with each other on this beautiful sunny day makes all of us here smile.”
“The Boys & Girls Club of the Big Island is not charging the school while the kids are utilizing our facilities, everything will be provided free of charge”, continued Mr. Cabral.
“We feel Puna kids and families are part of BGCBI’s ohana, and this is our way of continuing to show support towards those on Hawai‘i Island that need us the most”, said Mr. Cabral.
